INTERIOR DESIGN CONSULTATION
Every project begins with a walk-through, where we explore your space and its possibilities. During this session, we discuss design ideas, your lifestyle, aesthetic preferences, and options, while providing expert guidance on budgeting and project planning. During the consultation, Sabin Viehland offers as much insight and advice as possible, followed by detailed design notes and a proposal tailored to your project.
INTERIOR DECORATION
For clients seeking a refresh without major construction, Sabin Viehland coordinates with trusted trades for moving, painting, floor finishing, cleaning, wiring, plumbing, and wallpaper installation. We survey your space and existing furnishings, create furniture plans and interior elevations, and present a full design with follow-up meetings. Color schemes, material samples, and curated selections of furniture, flooring, lighting, wallpaper, art, and accessories are provided, along with a detailed budget estimate. We offer To-The-Trade procurement and project management to ensure a seamless process from concept to completion.
INTERIOR ARCHITECTURE
For clients embarking on new builds or renovations, Sabin Viehland helps bring a clear, cohesive vision to life while acting as your advocate with architects, builders, and tradespeople. We begin by surveying your space and furnishings, then develop layouts, cabinetry, lighting, and material plans tailored to your lifestyle and aesthetic. Through design presentations and collaborative follow-up meetings, we guide you in selecting furniture, lighting, wallpaper, art, accessories, flooring, tile, appliances, and fixtures. With perspective renderings, full estimates, and detailed specifications, we coordinate every aspect of your project and provide procurement services and project management, ensuring a seamless, enjoyable process from start to finish.
WORKING WITH US
-
Our bi-coastal studio specializes in creating chic, high-end residential interiors that blend historic character with a modern, layered style. We believe in honoring the architectural narrative of a home. Whether we are working on a 1790s Connecticut farmhouse or a mid-century retreat, we preserve structural heritage while introducing an eclectic mix of vintage elements and future heirlooms to make the space feel joyful, lived-in, and sophisticated.
-
This balance is our exact specialty. We respect original architectural details, such as original hand-hewn beams, stone fireplaces, and wide-plank flooring, while completely updating the layout, lighting, and mechanical functionality for modern life. Our focus on sourcing authentic vintage textiles and antique furnishings ensures that the additions feel seamlessly integrated rather than stark or out of place.
-
Not at all. While we have a deep reverence for historic properties, our portfolio spans diverse architectural styles, including clean-lined modern guest houses and eclectic urban spaces. Our underlying approach always remains the same: we focus on rich materiality, custom curation, and the well-being of the people who live there.
-
We are a full-service, turn-key firm. We guide projects comprehensively from initial concept design and detailed space planning through to custom interior architectural drawings, fine furniture specification, and full-scale project management. We manage the procurement, logistics, styling, and white-glove installation to hand over a completely finished, turn-key residence.
-
Yes, frequently. We act as your expert design advocate and project liaison. We collaborate with your architect and contractor from the earliest phases of a project, translating the design vision into interior architectural drawings to ensure clear communication and execution on-site.
-
Absolutely. If your home has great bones but needs a curated visual update, we offer dedicated design refreshes. This can include custom paint and wallcovering plans, floor refinishing, upgraded plumbing and lighting fixtures, and entirely new, bespoke furnishings layouts.
-
With established design studios located in Bethlehem, CT, and Montecito, CA, we operate as a coordinated, bi-coastal practice. Michelle Sabin leads our East Coast projects throughout Litchfield County and the Hudson Valley, while Audra Viehland heads our West Coast operations. This structure gives our clients a unique advantage: we are able to cross-source rare vintage pieces, fine art, and textiles across both coasts, bringing a fresh, inimitable variety to every home.
-
Sourcing unique, historic pieces is integral to our signature look. We tap into an exclusive, trusted network of local New England antique dealers, international artisans, and West Coast vintage troves to find one-of-a-kind heirlooms. We love auctions and flea markets. As your project progresses, we will collect vintage items and put them in place during our styling phase for your consideration. We coordinate all trade inspecting, historical restoration, transport, and delivery on your behalf.
-
The ideal time to engage our studio is during the pre-construction or architectural planning phase. Partnering with us early allows us to optimize your floor plans, refine lighting placements, and select interior finishes before construction begins, which saves significant time and prevents costly adjustments later in the process.
-
SVID typically purchases all furnishings, fixtures, and finishes, passing along trade pricing plus a 25% mark up. We provide all ordering, tracking, warehousing, and installation. All items are inspected upon arrival at our commercial receiving warehouse. We then install everything “turn key” when construction of the home is complete and the interiors are clean.
-
Timelines vary dependent on the project scope. Most residential projects have a design phase of 3-9 months, with a construction phase of 6-18 months. SVID produces schedules at the start of every project to align expectations of all team members and actively seeks to streamline all aspects of design and construction.
